The GCSE English Literature Lord of the Flies Masterclass is a structured 6-week online course. It helps students strengthen their understanding of William Golding’s novel and develop the analytical skills needed for GCSE English Literature.
Across the six weeks, students explore key themes including civilisation and savagery, leadership and power, fear, the Beast, human nature and loss of innocence. They examine how Golding develops these ideas throughout the novel. Students also consider what Golding may be suggesting about society and human behaviour.
The Masterclass covers important characters including Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Simon and Roger. Students also examine the Littluns and other boys. They explore character development, relationships and contrasting viewpoints. This helps them understand how Golding uses characters to communicate wider ideas.
Throughout the course, students work with carefully selected quotations and develop their AO2 analysis. Guided modelling helps them move beyond simply identifying techniques. Instead, they learn to analyse individual words, symbolism, imagery and Golding’s methods in greater depth.
The final weeks focus on GCSE exam skills and analytical writing. Students practise planning responses, selecting relevant evidence and embedding quotations effectively. They also develop structured PEEL/PETAL analytical paragraphs. Exam-style activities help students improve their clarity, precision, timing and confidence.
Lessons combine guided teaching with analysis activities and opportunities for independent application. Students will also encounter higher-level interpretations that encourage thoughtful and perceptive responses.
The Masterclass supports students studying AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas. It is suitable for students who want to strengthen their knowledge of Lord of the Flies, improve their analysis and approach GCSE English Literature with greater confidence.
