Why Small-Group Courses & Masterclasses Work So Well
Many students build confidence and make faster progress in a focused small-group environment than they do working alone.
In a structured group setting, students:
✔ hear different ideas and perspectives – strengthening understanding and critical thinking
✔ build confidence by contributing answers, discussion and written responses
✔ learn key skills through guided modelling, examples and practice activities
✔ stay motivated through consistent weekly structure and clear learning goals
With no more than 8 students per group, every student receives individual feedback while benefiting from collaborative learning.
Whether preparing for September, developing writing and reading skills, or working towards GCSE success, students receive targeted support in a supportive and engaging environment.
This structured approach combines the benefits of classroom learning with the individual attention students need to make meaningful progress.

Synopsis
This 6-week GCSE Jekyll & Hyde Masterclass develops students’ knowledge of Stevenson’s novella while strengthening the analytical skills needed for GCSE English Literature. Across six focused sessions, students explore key themes, context and characters before progressing to language, structure, symbolism, Gothic conventions and exam-style analysis. The course is designed to move students from understanding the text to producing confident, evidence-based interpretations, with particular emphasis on AO1, AO2 and relevant AO3 connections.
Course fee: £15 per session × 6 weeks = £90 in total.
Course Details
Week 1
Explore Reputation and the Dual Nature of Man, alongside the expectations placed upon the Victorian gentleman. Students will examine how Stevenson presents respectable public identities alongside hidden desires and conflicting aspects of human nature.
Week 2
Explore Science & Religion and Secrecy, connecting these ideas to Victorian London and Victorian attitudes towards religion and science. Students will consider how Stevenson uses these concerns to develop tension, fear and moral conflict.
Week 3
Study Dr Henry Jekyll, Edward Hyde and Gabriel Utterson. Students will explore characterisation, important quotations, relationships and how each character connects to the novella’s central themes.
Week 4
Focus on Dr Hastie Lanyon, Mr Enfield and Poole, while developing understanding of how the supporting characters contribute to the mystery and reveal different perspectives on Jekyll and Hyde.
Week 5
Develop analytical writing through language, structure, setting and symbolism, while exploring Stevenson’s use of Gothic conventions.
Week 6
Apply your knowledge to exam-style questions, developing confident interpretations, effective quotation use and well-structured analytical responses.
