Synopsis

In these sessions, the course will explore how Conan Doyle uses the context of the British Empire to bring the story to life. Also, how Doyle uses duality in the characters of Holmes and Watson. Furthermore, the course will show how wealth and greed is viewed but how friendship and love are used throughout the novel. In each lesson there will be questions and quizzes to help the student retain the knowledge of the course.

Course Details

Week 1
During the first week, we will look at Victorian Britain and how they expanded the British empire through colonisation.
Week 2
In the second week, we will explore the theme of crime and justice. Additionally, the course will look at how the scientific approach is important to Holmes.
Week 3
Expanding on from last week, we will look at the rationally vs emotions in the story. Furthermore, the lesson will explore how Conan Doyle uses duality through the use of the characters Holmes and Watson. Then how the story uses love and friendship ….
Week 4
Finally, the lesson will explore how imperialism and the use of policies to gain power.

Each course will have no more than 8 students. Each small group course is designed for a particular level and subject. This is ideal for students who would rather learn with others. Each session is £12 per session.
